Millwall are the Championship’s in-form team of the moment, boasting an impressive run of twelve matches without defeat, including five at home.
The run has propelled the Lions from the relegation zone into a play-off position. The Addicks are in good form themselves, they have taken thirteen points from the last five games and are unbeaten in their last six away games. History is against them though, they do not have a good record against their local rivals.
Millwall have defied their pre-season billing as one of the favourites for relegation though they did suffer three early defeats at the New Den, against Blackpool, Cardiff and Brighton.
Recently they have continued their good form without influential midfielder, Liam Trotter, who is a major doubt for the game. Charlton old boy, Josh Wright, will be hoping to put one over on his old club though.
New Zealand born striker, Chris Wood, has been in tremendous form since joining the Lions on loan from West Brom. Wood has made thirteen starts for Millwall, plus a further appearance from the bench, and has scored eight goals. It will not help Charlton’s cause that Michael Morrison is suspended.
Chris Powell will have to make changes to the side that beat Peterborough on Tuesday. As well as Morrison’s suspension, he has injury worries and players returning to fitness to consider, as he ponders his team selection.
Matt Taylor and Dorian Dervite are the options to replace Morrison. Dervite appears to have moved ahead of Taylor in the pecking order and will probably get the nod to partner Leon Cort at the back.
Lawrie Wilson returned to training this week and is hopeful of being involved. Bradley Pritchard has been used on the right of midfield recently and Powell has Danny Green available as a more creative option.
Manny Frimpong was not as impressive on Tuesday but will surely start alongside skipper, Johnnie Jackson, in the centre. Salim Kerkar is likely to start on the left with Dale Stephens again confined to the bench.
Though Powell is hopeful of having Ricardo Fuller available, the striker must be a huge doubt, he apeared to pick up a nasty hamstring injury when scoring the spectacular opening goal against Peterborough.
Another hamstring victim, Danny Haynes, is expected to be available and could partner Yann Kermorgant up front. Powell could also go for a muscular pairing of Kermorgant and Hulse, with Haynes’ pace being used on the right flank. Charlton could line up like this:
Hamer; Solly, Cort, Dervite, Seaborne; Pritchard, Frimpong, Jackson, Kerkar; Kermorgant, Haynes.
Subs: Button, Taylor, Green, Wilson, Jonsson, Hulse, Wright-Phillips.
Dean Whitestone from Northamptonshire will referee the game.
There will be a noisy, vibrant atmosphere in the ground and both managers will be hoping to continue their good runs.
